Oh, dear… This was the roller coaster ride kinda book, I tell you! Main Character Zack had an amazing and crazy experience in Roppongi, Tokyo in 1998. As a native Japanese and ex bartender in Roppongi myself I understood the core of the book very well. This book portraits spirits of the gaijin in its unique place in the world. I must say that the story is not that too far from the reality of Roppongi in 90’s … I love all characters like Sofia, Mako, Mr.Tanaka and Carla… and Zack reminded me of someone I personally knew … They all could be people who you may meet in Roppongi next time you visit. Be aware!!
I am completely agree with Zack’s thoughts on page 13. This book is not only about the jaw dropping events, but also about friendship. I thought that the core of this book is about friendship itself. Author Nick Vasey wisely blended this universal topic with so called Roppingi life. Well done, Nick! I am looking forward to see it on the big screen one day soon!!
With all my respect
